The first dimension is power distance. Power distance is a dimension that addresses a society’s willingness to accept that there are inequalities between individuals. This is probably the most similar the two countries are, looking at all the dimensions. Despite that, they are still pretty different. The next dimension is Individualism. On this dimension Spain has a score of 51. This dimension shows how much members rely or depend on each other.

Basically, do the people in that society identify as a “we” or an “I”. Spain is a lot less individualistic than the United States, which has a score of 91. The third dimension is Masculinity. This dimension focuses on whether masculine or feminine values. A society with masculine values focuses more on competition, achievement and success.

The durum wheat planted in Europe has been reduced due to low price and the increase in almond and olive productions has lead to a decreased production of cereals in the region. “The world population today stands at 7,700 million inhabitants, with an annual growth of 80 million people, with food being the main problem facing the world”, explained the co-founder of Northstar Brokerage, Philip Werle. Improvements in agricultural production processes “have led to significant increases in yields per hectare, although this revolution has left thousands of farmers unable to keep up with the pace,” says Werle.

The unemployment rate stays extremely high in Spain – with more than 32%. But how to improve the situation? Therefore the Spanish Government approved now the Youth Employment Plan. Some of its aims are the apprenticeship of at least 225 000 young people in digital skills and the creation of a network of 3 000 new counsellors. The plan is valid during 2019 and 2021 and costs about 2 billion euros.

Other objectives of the plan are the establishment of a quality labour framework in employment and dignity at work. Young people should be protagonists of their labour insertion and qualification. The activity rate of young people between 20 and 29 years is expected to increase to 73.5%. The number of permanent contracts is predicted to rise by 15%.

Eating healthy and veggie is “in”: More than 50 % of the Spanish population have tried in the last twelve months a meat alternative (like hamburgers made of vegetables). The discount supermarket chain Lidl wants to adjust itself to the new preferences of its consumers and gets involved in the veggie revolution”.

Fruits and vegetables in one yoghurt? This sounds strange, doesn’t it? But exactly this did the shop and describes itself as the first grocery store chain to offer yoghurts with fruits and vegetables.
