A recent study revealed that two in five adults would fake a sick day if they needed a break from work. With that in mind, Resume.io sought to find what male and female employees are most likely to pull a sickie at work! Resume.io interviewed 60,000 workers to find out which of them have lied when calling in sick to work. From the results, they found the most common male and female names that have faked a sickie at work and asked how often they do it, alongside the most common reasons and excuses.

Male names most likely to pull a sickie at work

James is the male name most likely to pull a sickie at work! 1,498 respondents named James admitted that they have put on a croaky voice and called their bosses pretending they were ill to not go to work.The second male name is Steven (1,393) and swiftly followed by it come men called David (1,388) making the third place of the most likely to lie when calling in sick.

Female names most likely to pull a sickie at work

Sarah’s employers beware! 1,327 workers called Sarah havefaked sickness to not make it into work putting them on the top of the list of females most likely to pull a sickie! Claire comes in second with 1,293 admitting that they had called in sick when they were well. In third place of female names most likely to lie not to go to work are women called Laura (1,234).

Reasons for pulling a sickie at work

When asked about the reasons for pretending to be sick to get a day off work, 91% of the respondents revealed they needed a break from work for their mental health to recover from the high level of stress and anxiety in their jobs. Reasons related to leisure come in second with 87% of workers admitting they have called sick to go to a party, concert or festival to not use their holidays. For 44% of respondents, a simple headache is enough for them to call in sick to work.

44% revealed they usually call to work pretending they’re sick less than 7 days per year. Surprisingly, most of the respondents (56%) admitted they pull a sickie from 8 to 20 times per year. Resume.io interview 60,000 workers (30,000 men and 30,000 women) and asked if they have lied about calling in sick to work. The ones who said that they have had pulled a sickie, Resume.io asked for their first names, the reasons they’ve lied about it and how often they do it.
