Nearly everyone has material or an emotional interest in doing favors to others or in the moment they have certain power. Greta Thunberg seems to make a difference. “I am not part of any organization. I sometimes support and cooperate with several NGOs that work with the climate and environment. But I am absolutely independent and I only represent myself. And I do what I do completely for free, I have not received any money or any promise of future payments in any form at all. And nor has anyone linked to me or my family done so.” That is what she says at least. And her great success has also to do with the fact that she seems to be authentic.

But of course they let her ride for free on the train or she was invited by renowned German skipper Boris Hermann and by Pierre Casiraghi, the son of Monaco’s Princess Caroline. Malizia is owned by German property tycoon Gerhard Senft, who bought it from Swiss-French finance group Edmond de Rothschild which means high influential people are trying to profit from Greta’s popularity. But the small and skinny young woman does not play along. She does not wear company logos on here clothes and is still a shy and serious young adult that did not lose track in all the media attention she gets. Sometimes it is too much, but she seems to handle.

She was now sailing back with an Australian couple, their 11-month-old son, and a professional sailor to get to Portugal and from there to the COP25. Thunberg said that she will donate the prize money from the Freedom Prize, 25,000 euros, to four groups working for climate justice. She turned down an environmental award from the Nordic Council (£40,000), thanking the body for the honor but adding, “The climate movement does not need any more awards.”

She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year and is releasing a book later this year, of which all proceeds will go to charity, at least that is what she says. Obviously she has to cover certain expenses and make her living some how and also the living of her parents that accompany her in the shadow from place to place.  Svante Thunberg and Malena Ernman are an actor and opera singer.
