The World University Rankings 2019 by Subject by Times Higher Education (THE) ranks the UPF first among Spanish universities in the list of Business and Economics. The following universities in Spain to appear in the ranking are the UAB, in the 101-125 bracket, the University of Navarra (151-175) and the Carlos III de Madrid (176-200).

Spanish universities still have a long way to go

Considering these positions and the fact that UPF just ranks 57th overall shows that Spanish universities still have a long way to go. The ranking is led by two U.S. universities (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, which switch positions compared to last year), followed by three British universities: Oxford, Cambridge and London School of Economics and Political Science. With regard to the ranking in Social Sciences (which includes communication and media studies, politics and international studies, sociology and geography), UPF ranks in the 126-150 bracket. Following UPF are the Autonomous University of Madrid (201-250 bracket) and the University of Barcelona (251-300). At the top of the list in the Social Sciences, which has this year increased to 666 centres, are the universities of Oxford (Great Britain), which leads the table for the second year in a row, followed by Stanford, MIT, Harvard and Princeton universities, all in the United States.
