Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange programme which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other Participating Countries. The exchange of experience takes place during a stay with the experienced entrepreneur, which helps the new entrepreneur acquire the skills needed to run a small firm. The host benefits from fresh perspectives on his/her business and gets the opportunities to cooperate with foreign partners or learn about new markets.

The program is targeted to new entrepreneurs, firmly planning to set up their own business or have already started one within the last three years and experienced entrepreneurs who own or manage a Small or Medium-Sized Enterprise in one of the Participating Countries. The stay is partially funded by the European Union.

How does it work?

Karolina Jawniak from Poland (the new entreprenuer) had a co-operation with Stefanie Claudia Müller (the host entrepreneur) in Madrid, Spain in the period 24.03.2014 – 13.06.2014.

Karolina was looking for ways to develop further her business Casa Romantica (www.casaromantica.pl), which is in the field of decoration. Stefanie Müller runs the websites Planet BPM (http://planet-bpm.eu/) and Jobs All Over Europe (http://www.jobsallovereurope.com/). Jobs All Over Europe is a platform that meets employers based in different European countries and job seekers from all over the world.

Karolina Jawniak and Stefanie Claudia Müller decided to take part in the exchange to share knowledge and ideas about the Polish and Spanish markets and to support each other with the development of their businesses. The exchange covered a wide range of activities, some of which involved: creating and editing video CV/video interview, exchanging knowledge about social media and about the principles of Polish and Spanish markets, establishing contacts with foreign partners, building business relationships, cooperation with communication agencies, creating quotes for new business partners. Moreover, Karolina was introduced to the accounting rules in Spain which was very beneficial for her.

Through the exchange, both parties have gained new experiences and plan to continue their cooperation. Benefits included development of both companies and many ideas for the future.

What did it bring to both?

The success of the exchange is summarized shortly by Karolina Jawniak. “I already had my business for few months and my idea was to give customers items which they need and which they cannot find in Poland. It was hard to find suppliers in countries such as Spain without good knowledge of the language, the market and the business rules. The Program EYE proves that it is a good idea to go to another country, to get experience from an experienced entrepreneur, to share my knowledge and also to try market my company in other countries.” She also improved her Spanish. Moreover, she got many contacts and ideas how she can share her knowledge and work with communication agencies.
