664 productions from 36 countries were submitted this year to compete for the title Best European Television-, Radio- or Online production. 212 of them were now nominated to take part in the PRIX EUROPA competition. The festival will take place from 17 until 23 October in Berlin. With up to a thousand participants it has become Europe’s most important tri-media platform.

This year’s content reflects all the themes that divide Europe these days – the economic crisis, the treatment of refugees or international war zones. However, when it comes to media production itself, Europe stands united! The European co-production – one of PRIX EUROPA’s fundamental objectives – is on its way right to the top. Media cooperation crosses country- and EU borders. Last year’s TV Fiction winner Czech Television, for example, is taking a French, German, Slovak co-production to Berlin this year. As many as six countries, were involved in the making of “The Queen Of Silence“, a documentary about a deaf-mute Roma girl. Northern Europe with its strong tradition of cooperation is extending towards partners in Southern European countries. In radio another form of cooperation strikes the eye: here a Spanish production company shines with a radio play commissioned directly by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
